Texas, October 2-3, 2007

The Minerals Management Service is a supporting organization of the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University 2007 Well Control-Gulf of Mexico (WellCTRL) conference. The conference was to foster interaction and accelerate the exchange of ideas between Well Control Specialists. WellCTRL identified common Well Control issues in the Gulf Coast Region and plan collaborative action to address those issues.

bullet Deepwater Drilling: Where Are We Headed?--Drilling Engineering Association Workshop

The Minerals Management Service co-sponsored the 2003 Drilling Engineering Association Workshop, “Deepwater Drilling: Where Are We Headed.” The workshop explored the technical gaps that must be surmounted to advance from exploration drilling in ultra deepwater (7,500 feet-plus water depths) to routine development. Sessions explored topics on drilling vessels, tubulars, annular flow, wellbore stability and well control. The event featured industry panel discussions that reviewed the information presented, and subsequent breakout sessions drew conclusions on the work necessary to move forward.

The Workshop was sponsored by the MMS, US Department of Energy, International Association of Drilling Contractors, Gas Technology Institute, Petroleum Technology Transfer Council, and the Energy Research Clearinghouse.
