Date of Summary February 17, 2005
Subject Support for the Composites Engineering and Applications Center (CEAC) for Petroleum Exploration and Production
Performing Activity University of Houston
Principal Investigator Dr. Su Su Wang
Contracting Agency Minerals Management Service
Estimated Completion Complete
Description This is a Joint Industry Project (JIP) to support the creation and maintenance of the CEAC at the University of Houston. The specific goals proposed for the center were to:

(1)identify and quantify the opportunities for utilizing composite materials in the petroleum industry;

(2) develop composites applications that will reduce the cost of petroleum operations;

(3) establish the technical infrastructure needed by the petroleum industry to use composite products;

(4) develop enabling composites applications that extend exploration and production capabilities beyond current limits;

(5) facilitate Joint Industry Projects that will develop experience and the database needed to demonstrate the performance and reliability of composite products in critical operations;

(6) bridge technology gaps with R&D and technology transfer programs;

(7) serve as a liaison between the U.S. petroleum industry and the certification/regulatory agencies on issues concerning the use of composite products.

Progress A fourth international composite workshop – October, 2005.
