We arrived in deep water at 9:30 local time and deployed the hydrophone array. Except for a group of about 8 bottlenose dolphins an hour later, we did not see or hear any other marine mammals. In the early afternoon, a seismic survey ship passed our bow at quite some distance and we have been hearing its air-guns firing all day.

We will continue surveying in a westerly direction for another two hours and then turn south-east. The weather here is calm and sunny, perfect for those sperm whales to show up.
