Audit
Protocols One of the MMS objectives for regulating safe operations has been to promote continuous improvement in safety and pollution prevention. Integral to that is some method of determining if the safety management systems have the necessary components, that they are in place, and that they are effective. This can be accomplished through a sound audit program. To assist the industry, the OOC and MMS formed a joint working group to develop a set of audit protocols based on API RP75. These can be used directly or tailored by companies who are ready to begin assessing the effectiveness of their safety system management programs but who do not have their own audit programs yet. Companies with ongoing audit programs can also use them for benchmarking purposes. Note: The audit questionnaire protocols in the following files are not subject to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995. Neither the MMS, nor any other Federal Government agency, requires the use of these or similar questionnaires. Companies do not collect the information for submission to MMS or any other Federal agency. Companies which implement API RP75 might use such audit questionnaires as internal company documents, but would do so on their own initiative.
