April 2, 1996MMS PRESENTS 1995 NATIONAL SAFE AWARD TO EXXON
The U.S. Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS) today presented their 1995 National Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) to Exxon Company, USA.
"This prestigious award recognizes Exxon's exemplary performance as well as its corporate commitment to safety and environmental protection while conducting operations on the Nation's Outer Continental Shelf (OCS)," said MMS Director Cynthia Quarterman.
During 1995, Exxon received the SAFE award from both the MMS Gulf of Mexico Region's New Orleans District for production operations, and the Pacific Region's Camarillo District for production and drilling operations.
"MMS inspectors conducted a combined total of 60 inspections of Exxon's Platform Heritage and Platform Harmony offshore Santa Barbara, California, with zero incidents of noncompliance in drilling operations," declared Quarterman. "There were no violations during production inspections on Exxon's Gulf of Mexico facility on Mississippi Canyon Block 397. Our inspectors were truly impressed with the training, performance and cooperation of Exxon personnel in both locations."
Bob Armstrong, Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Land and Minerals Management, presented the award to Jim Peery, Vice President for Production, Exxon Company USA, during the annual meeting of the National Ocean Industries Association in Washington, D.C.
The SAFE award was established by MMS in 1983 to recognize and honor companies that make a concerted effort to train and motivate their employees to conduct offshore operations emphasizing safety and environmental protection.
MMS is the federal agency that manages the Nation's natural gas, oil and other mineral resources on the OCS, and collects, accounts for, and distributes about $4 billion yearly in revenues from offshore mineral leases and from onshore mineral leases on federal and Indian lands.
