Kallaur, a career federal employee, has been named Deputy Director of the U.S. Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS), the agency announced today. "Carolita exemplifies the very best of career civil service," declared agency Director Cynthia Quarterman. "Her background and experience have been invaluable both to me and the Interior Department as we work to ensure that MMS fulfills its mission. "We share a commitment to have MMS provide a high level of service to customers and stakeholders, and make government work better and cost less. Together we will continue to work with all employees to make sure MMS is recognized as the best minerals resource manager." Kallaur, who has both a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Connecticut, joined the Department of the Interior in 1968 as an economist with the Bureau of Land Management. Following stints with the Department's Office of Policy Analysis and Office of Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Program Coordination, she joined MMS as Chief of the Offshore Leasing Management Division in 1982. Since that time, she has held increasingly responsible positions with MMS. A member of the Senior Executive Service, Kallaur holds both the Department of the Interior's Meritorious and Distinguished Service Awards, has received the Presidential Distinguished Rank Award, and has twice been recognized with the Presidential Meritorious Rank Award. The MMS is the federal agency that manages the Nation's natural gas, oil and other mineral resources on the OCS, and collects, accounts for and disburses about $4 billion yearly in revenues from federal offshore mineral leases and from onshore mineral leases on federal and Indian lands. -MMS-
