MMS EMPLOYEES RECEIVE MANAGEMENT CONTROL AWARDS(#30010) FOR RELEASE: March 3, 1993 CONTACT: Tom DeRocco (202) 208-3983 MMS EMPLOYEES RECEIVE MANAGEMENT CONTROL AWARDS (#30010) Six employees of the Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS) were honored by that agency last week as the 1993 recipients of the Director's Management Control Awards. Receiving individual awards were: --Bernadette Osolnick, a management analyst at MMS's Herndon facility and a resident of Leesburg, VA; --Steven Rawlings, a program analyst at the Royalty Management Program's office in Lakewood, Colo., a resident of Arvada, and a graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder; --Sandra Streets, Chief of MMS's Management Services and Security Division at Herndon and a resident of Chantilly, VA. She attended Framingham State College in Massachusetts; Honored with a group award for Technology Assessment and Research were: --Maureen Bornholdt, an environmental specialist at MMS's Herndon offices, a native of Zama, Japan, a graduate of George Mason University and a current resident of Arlington, VA; --John Mirabella, Chief of MMS's Engineering Standards Branch in Herndon, a resident of Vienna, VA. Mirabella graduated from the University of Virginia, achieved a Master's degree from George Washington University and is currently studying for a doctorate at George Mason; --Paul Schneider, Petroleum engineer, Herndon resident, an engineering graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Platteville and an Interior Department employee since 1980. The awards are part of an ongoing program established three years ago by MMS. The honors go to employees who have outstanding records identifying management control weaknesses that could lead to waste or inefficiency and who recommend corrective action. "This was the first program within the Department of the Interior to honor employees for exceptional management control efforts," Acting MMS Director Carolita Kallaur said, "and this year's recipients are excellent representatives of the outstanding work this program is designed to honor." The awards were presented by the Acting Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Land and Minerals Management, Michael P. Dombeck. -MMS-
