Dive Team

The Pacific Region MMS Dive Team works closely with divers from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Game, Channel Islands National Park, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Examples of Dive Team Monitoring Efforts:

  • Monitor the general condition of the shallow subtidal areas in the vicinity of OCS production.

  • Survey for endangered and depleted populations of marine life – from white abalone to bocaccio rockfish.

  • Survey the coastal area where OCS projects are planned to occur and, depending on their findings, recommend mitigation measures be placed on the planned activities.

  • Survey during the implementation (construction, etc.) of a project to ensure that mitigations are being implemented; survey following the project to ensure that there are no residual impacts.
