Despite extensive damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, the Minerals Management Service is continuing to operate in the Gulf of Mexico. The Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) Team has set up business in Houston, transferring regional office operations and a limited number of staff to carry out regional operations. MMS District and sub District offices in Lafayette LA, Houma LA, Lake Jackson TX and Lake Charles, LA are fully operational.

All inspection functions are being handled through the Lafayette District office (337-262-6632). MMS staff and inspectors, who are charged with onsite enforcement of safety regulations, are working with the offshore oil and gas industry as they review the status of offshore platforms and pipelines before resuming operations.

Shut-in statistics will be updated on the www.mms.gov website each day around 1:00 CDT. Because of adjustments in the website management, this time may vary slightly, but will be as close to 1:00 CDT as possible.

All incidents caused by Hurricane Katrina are to be reported to the COOP Operations Center at either 281-987-6876 or 281-987-6865, or faxed to 281-987-6885.

Companies are expected to report any damage to pipelines and platforms, as well as any status updates to previously reported information, as soon as it becomes known. Please use the following numbers to call in the status of your pipelines and platforms:
