Remarks: A welder was welding under the living quarters to upgrade structure supports. At 18:00 hours, the fire watch stopped the welding operations due to the winds getting stronger. The fire watch hosed down the supports that had been welded and the plywood above the supports. The firewatch stayed on duty for 45 minutes. At 19:00 hours, the platform crew changed out and the welding crew left. At 22:00 hours, two platform personnel went up to the living quarters; they did not smell any smoke. At 04:10, two night operators smelled smoke inside the production office which is on the deck below the living quarters. One operator ran to wake everyone up, and the other went out the back door to the production office and saw embers falling from the living quarters. They then pulled the lower metal siding from the living quarters to get to the fire. They used a fire water hose to flood the area between the floor and subfloor. At 04:50, they had the fire out and the wood had quit smoldering.
