Collisions - Statistics and Summaries 2006-2010

MMS requires that all Collisions be reported. Effective July 17, 2006, MMS revised the regulations for incident reporting for Collisions. The number of Collisions for 2006 may be affected by this change when compared to other years. The current definition for Collisions means:

  • The act of a moving vessel (including an aircraft) striking another vessel, or striking a stationary vessel or object (e.g., a boat striking a drilling rig or platform).
     
  • All collisions that result in property or equipment damage greater than $25,000 must be reported.

***Effective July 17, 2006, MMS revised the regulations for Incident Reporting.  Related to this chart, changes were made to the reporting criteria for Collisions, and Other Incidents.  Thus the number of incidents shown in these categories for 2006 and beyond may be affected by this change when compared to previous years.
