Loss of Well Control - Statistics and Summaries 2006-2010

MMS requires that all Losses of Well Control be reported. Effective July 17, 2006, MMS revised the regulations for incident reporting. The number of Losses of Well Control for 2006 may be affected by this change when compared to other years. The current definition for Loss of Well Control means:

bullet Uncontrolled flow of formation or other fluids. The flow may be to an exposed formation (an underground blowout) or at the surface (a surface blowout).
  
bullet Flow through a diverter
 
bullet Uncontrolled flow resulting from a failure of surface equipment or procedures

***Effective July 17, 2006, MMS revised the regulations for Incident Reporting. Related to this chart, changes were made to the reporting criteria for Losses of Well Control incidents. Thus the number of incidents shown in these categories for 2006 and beyond may be affected by this change when compared to previous years.
