Mexico Region Spills ≥ 50 Barrels (2,100 gallons) 1996 September 29, 1996 - Enserch Exploration, Inc.
Remarks: The M/V "Seacor Champion", a 166' supply workboat, lost power and thruster operation while tied up to the "Garden Banks Cooper" drilling rig/platform with mooring lines. Seas were 4-6'. The M/V came in contact with the CSC-4 column 3 times before the Captain could get it released from the mooring lines. The M/V holed its diesel fuel day tank, sustained structural damage on its starboard side, and lost all power. The Cooper rig sustained cosmetic damage to the CSC-4 column. Approximately 4,400 gallons of diesel fuel were discharged from the M/V Seacor Champion's diesel fuel day tank. The cause of power and thruster failure remains unknown.
