Mexico Region Spills ≥ 50 Barrels (2,100 gallons) 1988 February 7, 1988 - Amoco Pipeline Company
Remarks: A ship dropped an anchor illegally and dragged it along the bottom in high winds. A oil pipeline buried 3' was picked up by the anchor to 8' above the mud line and ruptured. Response: pipeline was shut in and repaired by installing a 45' section of pipe with a gripper type connection with ball joint flanges on both ends. Remarks: The platform operator apparently placed the surface safety system out of service in the early morning because of generator problems. The production process system apparently filled to capacity and carried over from vessel to vessel causing a pollution overflow from the flare scrubber. Response: shut in platform and completed repairs. November 7, 1988 - Mark Producing, Inc.
Remarks: The shale shaker clean out plate was left open after cleaning the shaker and 64 bbl of diesel (117 barrels of 55-percent oil-base mud) leaked. November 16, 1988 - Chevron U.S.A. Inc.
