Oil-Spill Modeling Program: Oil-Spill Risk
Analysis Reports
The Minerals Management Service produces oil-spill risk analyses (OSRAs)
for proposed Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) oil and gas lease sales and
developmental activities.
These analyses estimate the potential oil-spill risks that may be
associated with offshore activities that occur once leases are awarded.
It is important to remember that these are projections based on
probability only. There is no way of knowing in advance, which
tracts will be leased, which leases will see activity, what types of
hydrocarbons may be recovered if any, the size of an actual spill, or
even the prevailing weather conditions, should an accident occur.
