Environmental Studies

CMI: California

MMS California Coastal Marine Institute
University of California at Santa Barbara

The CMI research agenda is driven by the information needs of the Minerals Management Service offshore gas and oil development program active in the Pacific OCS Region. Pacific OCS Region information needs can be found in the FY 2002-2003 Pacific OCS Region Annual Study Plan. Broad framework issues describe areas of program interest for the CMI:

bulletStudies for better understanding marine, coastal or human environments affected or potentially affected by offshore oil and gas or other mineral exploration and extraction on the outer continental shelf.
bulletModeling studies of environmental, social, economic, or cultural processes related to OCS gas and oil activities to enhance predictive capabilities.
bulletExperimental studies to improve understanding of environmental processes or the effects of OCS activities.
bulletSynthesis studies of environmental, or socioeconomic background information relevant to the OCS gas and oil program.
bulletProjects which design or establish mechanisms or protocols for sharing data or information regarding marine or coastal resources, or human activities to support prudent management of oil, gas and marine mineral resources.
