Citation: Octavio Pastrana

The Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service presents its 1998 Corporate Leadership Award to Octavio Pastrana for his leadership capabilities.  This award recognizes his commitment and contributions which enhanced MMS's ability to meet its mission objectives.

Mr. Pastrana made deliberate effort to address concerns regarding the safety of subsea pipelines.  Some of these efforts included:

	Facilitated workshops on pipeline technology in Anchorage, Alaska, and conducted additional technology fairs in individual North Slope communities.
	Invited MMS to participate in internal BP Exploration (Alaska), Inc. (BPXA) safety meetings and technical peer reviews of the Northstar pipeline and production facility.
	Volunteered to participate in a work group to review API RP 2N and to provide the work group with the results of engineering and field work which BPXA had completed for the Northstar pipeline.

These efforts reflect the unselfish and professional effort by Mr. Pastrana in promoting safety and corporate responsibility consistent with the intent and spirit of the Corporate Leadership Award.
