Creek Cleanup - An Annual Event
A group of enthusiastic MMS staffers and their kids have participated for the past 8 years on the annual Creek Cleanup organized by the Anchorage Waterways Council. The purpose of the annual event is to remove litter and other trash that finds its way into the wetlands and creeks around Anchorage. Teams are formed by various businesses, government agencies, organizations and concerned citizens. The cleanup is followed by a celebration with food, entertainment, and prizes for notable trash finds such as strangest item, item farthest from its source, and the most colorful item. Creek cleanup certainly is a worthwhile endeavor. Its amazing the kind of things that people unthinkingly toss into waterways that contributes to the general degradation of the environment. If you live in the Anchorage area, plan to participate in next years effort. Other towns may have similar programs and you can help out in your area as well. |
